Y-house house is for a family with a specific lifestyle desire: a simultaneous desire for a shared living experience as a family with an equally strong desire for a high degree of independence and autonomy as individuals. To balance the need for a celebrated communal living area and the autonomy of the private areas of the couple, their children and visiting guests, a pinwheel plan was adopted as the basic diagram for the house organization where each wing of the pinwheel corresponds to the private areas of the house as well as one of the wings dedicated to the service areas.
The central area, around which the four wings are distributed, is a large living and dining space. The outdoor areas are clearly framed and segmented by the wings into various private gardens as well as larger front and back gardens that form a continuity through the central living space.
